Structures, pathways and clearings

forest garden path structure design

The observations and visioning exercises on site gave a very clear picture of numerous pathways leading to a large clearing with a shelter. We also looked at desire lines within the site and connecting the site to other areas.
We used an A-frame to mark the contours for some of the paths to minimise effort in making and maintaining paths and improve water retention on the site.
We designed the plantings around the clearing making use of the sunlight coming in and to fulfill the aims of creating a community space.
We had the beginnings of a roundhouse on site and as part of the second year focus on developing the community education side of the project, we decided to run courses in straw bale building and green roof construction as well as decided to raise funds for a temporary structure for courses, retreats, celebrations and festivals.
