I looked at the web of connections between the projects – saw that around the house and the garden the web was wearing a bit thin. I went on to do a SWOC analysis of the house versus community buildings as potential projects for the diploma – and another web of connections analysis with the community buildings in the place of the house resulting in a stronger web of connections. This indicated to me that the design of a community building was a more exciting project for me personally and may have wider relevance to community life. It was also a personal decision not to make the renovation and extension of our house a diploma project in that it was already a big enough project in itself and already well underway. Under the Garden Pathway, I have given a summary of the design principles we used in the process.
